Means of Egress (Evacuation Protocol)

Understanding the procedures of evacuation can be the difference between life and death. In the recent night club incidents a tragic loss of life can occur with minutes. A pre-planed communicated evacuation plan can be a major factor between life and death. Detailed floor plans with primary and evacuation routes are essential. But, that is not enough!

In addition, an evacuation drill must be accomplished efficiently and effective. What our consultants have learned is that in all incidents a certain degree of panic and fear will preside over an individual. These infectious emotions “Panic and Fear” will cause confusion and eventually if not channeled will cause an individual to lose his/her life.

Finite Evacuation Process

Our process starts with a risk assessment on the procedures developed from both internal and external considerations.

The following criteria will be included within this risk assessment: (Not Limited to the following)

• OSHA Requirements 29 CFR 1910 Subpart E
• Exit Routes (Primary & Alternate)
• Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans
• Locking Exits
• Access to Exits
• Maintaining Exit Routes
• Exit Markings
• Fire Extinguishers
• Fire Company Response (Career vs. Volunteer)
• Ambulance Response (EMS)

The next step will be to consult on the finding of our assessment with these key personnel. After the first two steps have been completed our process will be then to develop / evaluate in coordination with key personnel primary and alternate evacuation routes, to include an accountability system. Our final process will be to develop and critique a full functional drill.
